Thoroughbred offense erupts for 9-2 win over John Jay

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team scored nine unanswered goals to battle back from an early 2-0 deficit for an emphatic 9-2 win over visiting John Jay College on Wednesday afternoon.
 
  • For Skidmore, it is the most team goals in a game since Sept. 2, 2004, against Mount Saint Mary College in a 9-0 victory.
  • Seven different Thoroughbreds found the back of the net, led by junior Hyungbin Kim, who had a career day. He scored twice and had two assists for six points.
  • First year Colin Goodhines also scored twice for the Thoroughbreds. They were the first and second tallies of his collegiate career.
  • Tobias Catizone and Max Mian each registered one goal and one assist.
  • Brady Trenchard, David Garvin, and Connor Mansfield also each found the back of the net.  
  • Assists came from Perry Sofis-Scheft, Cole Rogan, Alec Llerena, Josh Hocheiser, and Edo Ferrari. Eight out of Skidmore's nine goals were assisted, with a pair of rare double-assist occurrences.
  • Ben Gibeau made a save in 65.5 minutes of shutout relief in goal for Skidmore for his first career victory.
  • Daniel Rosa scored first for John Jay in the 13th minute to give the guests the lead. Justin Gharbin converted a penalty 2:26 later to put the Bloodhounds up by two.
  • Skidmore got one back at the 16:44 mark, Kim from Catizone, to cut the deficit in half.
  • Goodhines connected on the first of his two goals in the 27th minute to tie it up.
  • Skidmore grabbed the lead just under five minutes later, on Mian's goal from Hocheiser.
  • The Thoroughbreds tacked on four more in an 11-minute span early in the second half capped by the second goals of the afternoon from both Goodhines and Kim.
  • Skidmore completed the scoring with marks in the 78th and 90th minute from Garvin and Mansfield.
