SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's soccer team started the 2023 season with a 0-0 tie with SUNY Oswego Friday afternoon at Wachenhiem Field.

Jonathan Phytrion made the most of his first career start with five saves, including four in the first half.
** Oswego had the game's first six shots, holding the Thoroughbreds without a shot for the first 24 minutes. The Thoroughbreds bounced back with a pair of late half scoring chances.
Cole Rogan had a quick rebound shot on goal off a blocked
Kamal Ibrahim shot in the 27
th minute. Laker goalie Andre Bourjolly made the save to keep the game scoreless.
** Skidmore had a narrow miss in the 60
th minute when
Max Mian's close shot went off the post. The Thoroughbred defense shut down a pair of Oswego corners in the final minutes to secure the tie.
** The Lakers had a 15-14 shot edge, while corners were 3-3. The teams combined for seven yellow cards and 20 total fouls.
** Skidmore hits the road Sept. 2 for a 4 p.m. game at SUNY Geneseo. It will be the first meeting between the teams since a 1-1 tie in 2018.
