Thoroughbreds fall 11-4 at #25 Ithaca in first round of Liberty League Tournament

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team had its season come to an end on Tuesday at Ithaca in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament. The nationally 25th-ranked Bombers won 11-4 to advance to the semifinal round.

  • Gabriella Modesti scored twice and had an assist for the Thoroughbreds, who wrap the 2023 season with an 8-9 record. She reached the 40-goal plateau and finished the year with 59 total points.
  • Liv Kazanjian made 24 saves for Skidmore, just three shy of the program record of 27 set by Deb Rosenthal in 1987. After nine saves in the first half, she stopped 15 more in the second half.
  • Maddy Marr and Grace deBenedictis scored the other two Skidmore goals.
  • Skidmore scored first at the 37-second mark on a deBenedictis unassisted tally. She finished her first-year season with 18 goals and at least one in each of the last five games of the year.
  • Ithaca tied it just over two minutes after Skidmore broke the ice. The Thoroughbreds held the hosts off the board over the next nine-plus minutes until the Bombers popped a pair in a 48-second span to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • Early in the second frame, Marr scored from Modesti while the Thoroughbreds were a player-down. Skidmore scored three woman-down goals this season and did not allow any.
  • Ithaca finished the half on a 4-0 run to lead by five at halftime.
  • The Bombers scored twice more to make it 9-2 in the third.
  • The teams split the fourth period two goals apiece. Modesti scored them both for Skidmore.
