Thoroughbreds fall in battle of nationally ranked teams

TROY, N.Y.—The 30th ranked Rensselaer men's tennis team won several close matches on the way to a 7-2 Liberty League win over #29 Skidmore College Saturday afternoon. It was the first league loss of the year for the Thoroughbreds who are 7-6 and 4-1. RPI is 5-5 and 1-1.
 
  • The number one doubles team of Brendan Jimenez and Nika Mori lost 8-7 (6) at number one doubles to Anders Drover-Mattinen and Andy Zhu. Sergiu Celebidachi and Griffin Biernat came back for an 8-5 win at number two.
  • The featured match of the day between 2022 Liberty League Player of the Year and All-American Drover-Mattinen and Jimenez lived up to the hype with Jimenez winning the first set 6-4 and Drover-Mattinen the second set 6-4. Drover-Mattinen held on for a 7-5 win in the third.
  • Kyle Lundberg had a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win at number six for the Thoroughbreds.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore travels to Amherst College on April 15.
