Thoroughbreds back in Liberty League Championship Match

ITHACA, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's tennis team beat Rensselaer 5-2 to advance to its 16th straight Liberty League championship match. The 28th ranked Thoroughbreds have won 11 straight Liberty League titles. Skidmore is 11-7, while #34 RPI ends its season at 14-5.
  • Skidmore, seeded second, will face top seed Vassar in Sunday's championship match that starts at 9 a.m.
  • The Thoroughbreds found themselves down 2-1 after doubles. Konika Dhull and Beilynn Geiss beat Masha Karach and Brooke Bauer 8-3 at number three. Ella Provost and Grace Truong lost a heartbreak tiebreaker 8-7 (7-4) at number two.
  • Skidmore quickly took control of the match in singles. Geiss got it started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six over Bauer. Provost was next to finish, winning 6-0, 6-2 at number five over Masha Karach.
  • Katherine Almquist made it 4-2 with a 6-4, 6-0 win at number three against L. Flores Gonzalez. Dhull clinched it at number four, winning 7-5, 6-3 against Rani Jones.
  • Vassar advanced with an easy 5-0 win over St. Lawrence.
  • The teams played last weekend, with the Brewers winning the regular season match-up 5-4.
  • This will be the sixth straight and 16th time in the last 17 championships that the two teams have faced each other in the title match.
