Thoroughbreds fall 5-4 to Vassar

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's tennis team lost its final regular season match 5-4 to Vassar College Sunday afternoon at the Wilton YMCA. The 28th ranked Thoroughbreds are 10-7 overall and finish 7-1 in Liberty League play, while the #38 Brewers move to 11-5 and 7-1.
  • Skidmore will be the number two seed in the upcoming Liberty League championships scheduled for April 28-30 at the Cornell University Reis Tennis Center. The Thoroughbreds will get a first round bye and face the winner of RPI and Ithaca in a Saturday semifinal at 11:30 a.m.
  • The number three doubles team of Konika Dhull and Beilynn Geiss prevented a Vassar doubles sweep with an 8-7 (7-3) win over Elyse Duley and Tatum Blalock.
  • Maya Lal beat Macey Dowd 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles. Dhull had an 6-4, 6-0 win at number five singles against Iris Li.
  • COACH CURT SPEERSCHNEIDER: "We knew this would be a close one, but we just left way too many opportunities out there.  We just weren't executing and we gave away a lot of points, which makes things much harder and obviously cost us in the end.  That's on us.  The good thing is that we're allowed to have a short memory and get back out there when it counts next weekend.  Our goal remains the same."
