Thoroughbreds split with Dutchwomen

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team went 1-1 with Union College in Liberty League play Friday. The Thoroughbreds took the first game 3-2, while the Dutchwomen held Skidmore off in the night cap for a 7-6 win. The Thoroughbreds are 9-16 overall and 2-4 in league play, while Union is 10-12 and 3-3.
 
GAME 1
  • Union scored a pair of runs in the first to jump in front 2-0. Skidmore answered with a pair in its half of the inning. Chloe McGonagle had an RBI single down the leftfield line and later scored on a Carolina Garcia single.
  • Madison Bonham opened the second with a double to center field. Elle Harrison came in to pinch run, advancing to third on a deep fly and then scoring on a Megan Robertson sacrifice fly to right for what turned out to be the last run of the game.
  • Lindsey Raimondi closed with six scoreless innings to improve to 6-8. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking seven and striking out six.
  • Bonham and Grace O'Connell were both 3-3, accounting for six of Skidmore's nine hits. 
GAME 2
  • Union crept out to a 5-3 lead after three innings. Skidmore cut it to 5-4 on Robertson's RBI double in the fourth.
  • The Dutchwomen tacked on a pair of unearned insurance runs in the sixth for a 7-4 advantage.
  • The Thoroughbreds rallied in the seventh behind back-to-back RBI doubles by McGonagle and Bonham. Union hung on with the potential tying run on second for the 7-6 win.
  • Robertson finished 2-3 with two RBI. Bonham was 2-3 with an RBI and Melissa Mathias was 2-4 with an RBI.
  • Robertson went four innings in relief, allowing two unearned runs on three hits, walking one and striking out four.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Ithaca College for a Senior Day Liberty League pair, starting at 1 p.m.
