Thoroughbreds honor seniors after Liberty League pair against Ithaca

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team dropped a pair of Liberty League games 3-0, 9-2 to Ithaca College Saturday at Wagner Park. The losses leave the Thoroughbreds at 9-18 overall and 2-6 in league play. The Bombers are 16-9-1 and 4-4.

Skidmore honored its senior class after the games. Meghan Robertson, Melissa Mathias, Carolina Garcia and Lindsey Raimondi all had successful collegiate careers, playing key roles in the team's recent successes.

GAME 1
  • Ithaca took advantage of a bases loaded two out passed ball for an unearned run in the first. Raimondi pitched out of trouble, inducing an infield pop-up for the final out, leaving two runners stranded.
  • The Bombers scored single runs in the third and sixth, while holding the Thoroughbreds to only three hits and three walks.
  • Erin Gibbons was 1-3 with a double, Claire Stone was 1-1, and Grace O'Connell was 1-2.
  • Raimondi went the distance, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, walking six and striking out three.
  • Skidmore left eight runners on base.
GAME 2
  • Ithaca built a 5-0 lead and pitcher Anna Cornell didn't allow a hit until O'Connell beat out an infield grounder with one-out in the sixth. Bernie Berner scored on the play from second when the shortstop's throw went past first base. Chloe McGonagle then singled to right, scoring Megan Robertson to get the Thoroughbreds to within three 5-2.
  • The Bombers responded with four runs in the seventh to retake control for the 9-2 win.

NEXT UP: Skidmore hits the road for the next two weekends to close out the season with six Liberty League games. First up is a pair at RIT on April 29.
