Thoroughbreds edge SLU for first league win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team broke into the Liberty League win column with a 4-3 game 2 win over St. Lawrence University Sunday afternoon at Wagner Park. The Saints won the opener 3-0.  The Thoroughbreds are 8-15 overall and 1-3 in league play. SLU is 4-16 and 1-3.

GAME 1
  • A three-run first was all St. Lawrence needed in the 3-0 win. Skidmore threatened in the third and fourth innings, but stranded two runners each time.
  • Erin Gibbons had two of the Thoroughbreds' five hits.
  • Lindsey Raimondi (5-8) all seven for Skidmore. She allowed three runs on seven hits, had nine strikeouts and four walks.
GAME 2
  • The Thoroughbreds got on the board in the first when Franny Casillas walked and later scored on a Grace O'Connell ground out.
  • The Saints went in front 3-1 with three runs in the third. Skidmore responded with three in its half of the inning to regain the lead 4-3.
  • O'Connell and Melissa Mathias scored on a busted play for two of the runs. Claire Stone had an RBI double for the third run of the inning.
  • Madi Gambino ran her record to 2-0 with the win in relief. She tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless ball. Raimondi earned her first save of the season with 1.1 perfect innings to secure the win.
