Thoroughbreds tee off on Manhattanville, 17-7

PURCHASE, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team pounded out 17 hits on the way to a 17-7 nonleague win Manhattanville College Wednesday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds are 11-5, while the Valiants fall to 5-8.
  • Skidmore scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back.
  • Jackson Hornung and Danny Melillo accounted for seven of the team's 17 hits. Hornung was 4-5 with four runs, a double, a triple, an RBI, a stolen base, and a walk. Melillo was 3-5 with four runs, a triple, two RBI, two walks, and two steals.
  • Jaden Torrado went 2-4 with a run, two RBI, and a triple. Max Mello was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
  • Trey Bourque was 0-1, but had three RBI thanks to two sacrifice flies and an RBI hit by pitch.
  • Skidmore used six pitchers with Aaron Kats picking up the win. He tossed two scoreless innings with one hit, three strikeouts and no walks. Anthony Petersen struckout the side in his one inning of relief.
  • UP NEXT: The Thoroughbreds return to Liberty League play with three games against Bard. Skidmore is at Bard for two on Sunday at 12 p.m., then back in Saratoga on Monday for game 3 at 3:30 p.m.
