Softball goes 1-1 at Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team had a double header spilt Sunday afternoon at SUNY Oneonta. The Thoroughbreds won the first game 9-7 in nine innings and dropped the second 7-5.  Skidmore is 3-8, while the Red Dragons are 3-10-1.
 
GAME 1
  • After spotting Oneonta 4-0 lead, the Thoroughbreds stormed back with two in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to go up 6-5. The Red Dragons tied it in the seventh to force extra innings.
  • Each team scored in the eighth, sending it to the ninth. Madison Bonham laid down a perfect bunt to move placed runner Gibbons to third. Jessica Nachamie then had a sacrifice fly to left for the lead. Meghan Robertson had a two-out RBI single to plate Melissa Mathias who had reached on an error for the 9-7 lead.
  • Lindsey Raimondi reentered the game in the ninth to get the win. She worked her way out of trouble with the Red Dragons stranding two runners. She finished with six runs (four earned) in 8.0 innings on seven hits, with nine strikeouts and seven walks.
  • Grace O'Connell went 4-5 with a triple, a run and one RBI.
 
GAME 2
  • The Thoroughbreds pounded out 12 hits in the second game, but Oneonta came out on top 7-5.
  • Chloe McGonagle went 3-4 with a double and three RBI. Mathias, Robertson, and O'Connell had two hits each.
  • Robertson took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) in four innings. She walked one. Hannan Emerson went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds continue the SUNAC part of the schedule with a home pair on March 29 at 3 p.m. vs. Plattsburgh.
