SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team split its home-opening doubleheader on Friday afternoon with Castleton. The Thoroughbreds captured game one, 3-1, before dropping a 13-6 decision in game two.

The Thoroughbreds are 2-7 after the split. The Spartans are 3-3.

GAME 1 – Skidmore 3, Castleton 1
- Lindsey Raimoni allowed just two hits in the circle for the Thoroughbreds to pick up her second win of the year. She struck out five hitters and issued just one walk.
- Chloe McGonagle broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with a bases loaded, two-out, two-run single through the left side. Madi Gambino led off the fifth with a walk and moved to second on a one-out walk to Jessica Nachamie. A fielder's choice eliminated Gambino at third before Meghan Robertson loaded the bases with an infield single.
- Skidmore took the lead in the third on a Melissa Mathias RBI double to score Claire Stone, who hit a leadoff single, from first.
- Castleton tied it at one in the top of the fifth inning. Allison Almond walked and went to third on a Samera Rideout single inside the right field line. Jess Heinrichs drove in the run when she bounced into a fielder's choice.
- Stone made the defensive play of the day in the fourth inning on a diving backhand stop and long throw to first from shortstop in time to get the second out.
- Raimondi retired each of the last nine hitters she saw.
- Robertson had the only multi-hit performance in game one. She was 2-for-3. Â

GAME 2 – Castleton 13, Skidmore 6
- The Spartan bats came alive in game two with five home runs, including two from Hannah Mosher.
- Castleton erased a one-run deficit going into the fifth with a five-spot before tacking on three more in the sixth.
- Robertson was 3-for-3 for Skidmore with two doubles and a walk.
- Mathias was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Stone had two hits in three trips, drove in two, and scored one.
- Skidmore grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Mathias and Robertson both singled before Franny Casillas singled scoring one giving way to a two-run double over the left fielder's head from Stone.
- Miranda Fish launched a two-run homer in the third for Castleton to highlight a four-run Spartan rally aided by a pair of Skidmore throwing errors.
- Castleton added to its lead with a Kayla Fac solo blast in the fourth.
- Skidmore answered with three in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. Two of the runs were unearned as Madison Bonham picked up an RBI on an infield throwing error with Stone barreling home from third. Mathias scored a run with a single and Robertson drove in another with a double.
- Mosher hit the first of her two homers, a two-run shot, to highlight Castleton's big fifth inning. She went deep again to lead off the sixth, and Alexandra Brouillette joined the party with a two-run home run later in the inning.
