MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Skidmore College softball team opened its 2023 regular season with an 18-11 loss to Albertus Magnus College on Sunday afternoon. The game was called after five innings due to rain. Skidmore's second game against Cortland was postponed with no make-up announced yet.
 

• Erin Gibbons led the way for Skidmore. She was 3-for-4 with four RBI in her collegiate debut. Franny Casillas drove in two runs and scored three. She finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Chloe McGonagle also came across the plate three times.
• Carolina Garcia and Madi Gambino also had multi-hit games. Both went 2-for-4.
• Skidmore, the visiting team, struck first with three runs in the first inning on a Bonham sacrifice fly and a Casillas RBI ground out.
• After Albertus Magnus got one back in the second, the Thoroughbreds added on with a Gambino RBI single in the third.
• Albertus Magnus got two in the fourth to take the lead, 5-4.
• In the top of the fourth inning, the Thoroughbreds plated four runs highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run triple by Gibbons.
• Albertus Magnus answered emphatically by sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 15-9 lead.  
• Casillas doubled in a run in the fifth and Gibbons brought her in one batter later for Skidmore's last two runs.
• In the bottom of the fifth, Albertus Magnus scored three runs, all on bases-loaded walks, to complete the scoring.
• NEXT UP: Skidmore will play twice on Monday against Susquehanna at 11 a.m. and Spalding at 3 p.m.
