TROY, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team won its fifth straight and 10
th of its last 11 games, 57-46 over Rensselaer Friday night. The win clinches a home playoff game for the Thoroughbreds (16-4, 12-1 Liberty League). RPI is 9-11 and 6-7.
- Julia Blanck had another clutch all-round game with 14 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Cassie Davidson and Amelia Medolla scored eight each.
- Ashlyn O'Neil led RPI with 21 points.
- Skidmore took charge from the opening tip when Becca Horger scored three seconds into the game on an assist from Medolla. The Thoroughbreds extended the lead to 8-1 on threes from Medolla and Davidson.
- Skidmore never trailed, leading 11-5 after the first quarter. The Engineers crept to within one, 15-14, but The Thoroughbreds responded with a 7-0 run for a 22-14 lead.
- The lead moved to 29-18 at the half.
- RPI got to within eight near the end of the third quarter, 43-35, but that would be as close as it would get the rest of the way.
- Blanck connected on 4 of 7 shots from the field and 6 of 6 from the free throw line to lead the Thoroughbreds, who were 12 of 14 from the stripe as a team.
- Skidmore had a 17-8 advantage in bench scoring.
- The Thoroughbreds have won five straight against the Engineers and are 20-10 over the past 30 games.
- NEXT UP: A show down at first place Ithaca College Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bombers are the lone blemish in Skidmore's last 11 games.
