Thoroughbreds reach 20-win mark in regular season finale

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team finished its regular season with an emphatic 78-47 victory over Clarkson on Saturday afternoon as part of Skidmore's annual Big Green Scream.
 
  • The win for Skidmore is number 20 on the year. The regionally ranked Thoroughbreds are 20-5 entering the postseason as they finish 16-2 in the Liberty League and two games ahead of Vassar, and only one behind Ithaca, for second place.
  • It is the third time in program history, and the first since 2009-10, that Skidmore has won 20 games in a season. The program win record is 21, achieved in both the 2009-10 and 1995-96 seasons.
  • Kate McCarney, Skidmore's lone Senior, was recognized before the game. She came through with an 11-point, five-rebound, and five-assist performance to lead the charge.
  • Cassie Davidson scored 10 points and added three blocks and a pair of rebounds.
  • Four players - Emmy Plage, Andi Levitz, Amelia Medolla, and Madison Meyer – recorded eight points.
  • All 12 players in uniform for the Thoroughbreds scored at least one field goal and pulled in one rebound or more.
  • Skidmore dominated the glass all afternoon and finished with a 47-25 edge in boards. Skidmore had 16 offensive rebounds, led by Melissa Severino, who had five.
  • Skidmore also finished with nine blocks – three each by Davidson and Julia Blanck. Clarkson had one.
  • The Thoroughbreds shot at north of 50 percent in three out of the four quarters of play, including an 8-of-10 line in the fourth.
  • Cassidy Dumont led Clarkson with 19 points and five rebounds.
  • NEXT UP: As the second seed in the Liberty League Tournament, Skidmore will receive a first-round bye and will host a semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 24 against either Vassar or Union.
