SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—
Julia Blanck pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds and scored a team-high 16 points in Skidmore's 70-64 overtime Liberty League women's basketball win over St. Lawrence Friday night at the Williamson Center. The Thoroughbreds are 19-5 and 15-2 in league play, while the Saints are 13-10 and 9-7.
- Blanck had an all-round big game with three blocks and four steals. Kate McCarney 15 points and Cassie Davidson scored 11 points and had six rebounds.
- Jackie Malley scored 17 points and Caelan Mcharney added 10 for St. Lawrence.
- The game featured 12 ties and four lead changes.
- It was a two-possession game nearly the entire way. Skidmore went up seven, 25-18, with 8:24 to play in the first half on an Andi Levitz three. The Saints put together a 10-1 run to take a brief 28-26 lead with 4:43 in the half.
- St. Lawrence worked some key field goals into a 42-35 third quarter lead. The Thoroughbreds calmly worked their way back into a tie game at the end of the quarter, 44-44. Maddie Hastings had a rebound and a layup with 11 seconds left to tie it.
- The fourth quarter was a one possession game until a Mcharney field goal with 2:40 to play put SLU up 55-51. Skidmore battled back to force overtime, 57-57. McCarney had a jumper and Blanck had four points on a pair of free throws and the tying basket with :37 left in regulation.
- Skidmore pulled away in the overtime, behind eight McCarney points for the 70-64 win.
- The Thoroughbreds had a 24-12 advantage in bench scoring.
- The win completed the first season sweep of the Saints since the 2017-18 season.
- Skidmore's 15 league wins are the most in program history and the 19 wins are the third most in program history and the most since the 2009-10 season.
- Blanck's 20 rebounds is also the most since Kelly Donnelly had 20 in a 2017 win against Union.
- UP NEXT: The team closes out the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Clarkson in the Big Green Scream. The Thoroughbreds have already clinched second place and a first round bye and will host s Liberty League semifinal on Feb. 24.
