Thoroughbreds return to action with 57-35 win over Mount Saint Mary

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team shook off a 25-day break with a 57-35 win over Mount Saint Mary College Sunday afternoon at the Williamson Center. The Thoroughbreds are 7-3, while the Knights are 5-5.
  • Julia Blanck led Skidmore with 12 points and seven rebounds in only 18 minutes. Sarah Chambers added nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Maddie Hastings also had seven rebounds to go along with seven points.
  • Sarah Cashin scored nine points off the bench to lead the Knights.
  • Skidmore scored the game's first eight points and never looked back, opening an 18-6 lead after one quarter and a 35-20 advantage at the half.
  • The Thoroughbred defense stifled the Knights, scoring 18 points off 20 turnovers and holding them to 24.4 percent from the floor on 11 of 45 field goal attempts.
  • Skidmore dominated the boards with a 43-30 advantage and held a 24-15 edge in bench scoring.
  • The 35 points marked the third time in 10 games this season that the Thoroughbreds have held an opponent under 40 points. The team is only allowing 45.4 points per game, ranking fourth nationally.
  • It was the final nonconference regular-season game for the Thoroughbreds who went a solid 5-2 outside of the Liberty League. The team hosts Rensselaer on Jan. 5 at 5:30 to open a league weekend that concludes on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. against Union.
