Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Early lead holds up for Thoroughbreds against stubborn St. Lawrence squad

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team, despite seeing its 15-point lead dwindle all the way down to two, held on for a 61-55 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday to earn the weekend sweep.
  • Five players shared the wealth for the Thoroughbreds by scoring in double figures. Julia Blanck and Becca Horger led with 12 points each. Maddie Hastings and Cassie Davidson both had 11, while Amelia Medolla dropped 10. The group scored 56 out of Skidmore's 61 points.
  • Blanck registered seven rebounds, four blocks, three steals, and three assists for Skidmore, while Horger posted four boards, three steals, and three helpers.
  • Skidmore (6-2, 2-0 Liberty League), preserved the win thanks in large part to a pair of made free throws each from Horger and Andi Levitz paired with a tightened-up defense down the stretch.
  • Skidmore was 5-of-6 at the line in the fourth quarter and 6-of-8 for the game.
  • After a Cam Roberts basket for SLU made it 57-55 Skidmore with 2:31 remaining, the Saints went 0-for-4 shooting mixed in with a turnover for zero points over their final five possessions.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored 14 out of the game's first 16 points to take an early commanding lead. Skidmore shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) in the first quarter.
  • The guests settled down in the middle of the second frame and scored eight out of 10 points and trailed by nine, 32-23, at the half.
  • The Thoroughbreds retained a double-digit lead throughout the vast majority of the third period ahead of SLU's fourth quarter push.
  • St. Lawrence scored 38 out of their 55 points off the bench. Reserves Roberts and Margaret Dougher led the Saints with nine points each. Elizabeth Flynn had eight points and 11 rebounds.
  • Skidmore survived a similar St. Lawrence scare last season in overtime. The Thoroughbreds have now won three in a row against the Saints since SLU won five straight over the Thoroughbreds, concluding the run with a win in the first round of the Liberty League tournament in 2022. The defending league champions are 19-2 (.905) against Liberty League opponents since that playoff defeat.
NEXT UP: Skidmore turns around for a road league game at Vassar on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
