Thoroughbreds tripped up 69-58 by St. Lawrence

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team suffered a 69-58 defeat at home against St. Lawrence on Saturday.
  • Three Skidmore players, all first-years, finished in double figures. Jack LaGarde posted his second double-double of the weekend on 10 points and 14 rebounds to go along with four blocks and two steals.
  • Aidan Roy and Charlie Fantom scored 11 points each. Both of them hit on a trio of 3-balls. Roy added three assists and five rebounds.
  • Nick Padilla scored eight off the bench with two assists and three boards.
  • The Saints also featured three players with 10 or more points, led by Trey Syroka on both ends with 16 points, seven steals, four assists, and three rebounds.
  • Adam Dudzinski had 11 points with five assists and six rebounds. Andrew Cowan dropped 10 points with six rebounds and three blocks.
  • St. Lawrence finished 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field and connected on 9-of-19 3-point attempts for a 47.4 percent conversion. SLU also had a hefty 40-18 edge in points in the paint.
  • Skidmore outpaced the guests, 15-6, in second-chance points.
  • Following a Sebastian Obregón-Parenti triple to give Skidmore the lead, 14-13, just past the mid-way point of the first half, St. Lawrence wont on an 18-2 run to lead by 15 with five minutes left in the half.
  • Skidmore closed it to eight on the strength of back-to-back threes by Fantom and Roy and trailed by nine at the break. St. Lawrence expanded its advantage to as many as 20 in the second half.
  • Head coach Joe Burke: "Have to credit St. Lawrence tonight. I thought they were mature and strong in their approach. They exposed us a bit for what we are right now.  We will be a different version of ourselves in due time. Just gotta keep at it, keep pushing and plugging away.  We have talent. We just gotta get physically and mentally ready to play against teams that have more experience in us. Each game we learn a bit more."
