Skidmore steamrolls Canton, 11-1, for 5-0 start

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team exploded for 11 goals in a dominant 11-1 win over SUNY Canton on Saturday.
 
  • Jacob Franczak and Ryan Waltman each recorded hat tricks for the Thoroughbreds, who scored the most goals in a game in over a decade; since a matching 11-1 victory over Canton in Lake Placid on Nov. 2, 2013.
  • It was the first collegiate hat trick for both Franczak and Waltman.
  • Skidmore is off to its best start, 5-0, since the 1994-95 team won its first eight games. The Thoroughbreds have outscored opponents 33-8 through five contests thus far this fall.
  • Overall, 11 Thoroughbreds had multi-point nights with 17 out of 19 skaters registering at least one point.
  • Jaden York scored twice.
  • Zach Lindewirth went for three points on a goal and two assists.
  • Kevin Urquhart and Matthew Franzoi registered three assists each.
  • Everett Wardle and Kaeden Patrick both finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Three players (Oscar Worob, Nick Cozzi, and Zach Frisk) pitched in with two assists.
  • Five defensemen (Mitchell Floccare, Stephen Perez, Freddie Ilias, Jacob Zwirecki, Will Dow-Kenny) and one forward (Cooper Rice) all had one assist on their lines.
  • Skidmore scored twice in the first period before coming back with five in the middle frame to bust it open and then four more in the third.
  • Canton scored its only goal (Bobby Voss from Trystan Mughal) with 1:17 left in regulation.
  • Tate Brandon earned the win in goal for Skidmore with 17 saves over 40 shutout minutes. Blaine Moore had seven stops in the third in what was his first action between the pipes this year.
  • Skidmore finished 1-for-5 on the power play, did not allow a power-play goal in a trio of shorthanded situations, and posted a 44-25 edge in shots on goal.
  • Skidmore won 43-of-67 (64.2 percent) of faceoffs, led by Wardle, who went 14-1. Worob was 10-3.
NEXT UP: Skidmore jumps right back into NEHC play next weekend when it hosts Norwich for Pack the Rink on Friday, Nov. 17 and New England College on Saturday, Nov. 18.
