Skidmore blanked 2-0 by Springfield

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team lost 2-0 at home on Tuesday night against Springfield.
 
  • The visiting Pride scored twice in the first half and held on in the latter 45 to extend their unbeaten streak to four. Springfield is 4-3-3.
  • The Thoroughbreds are 1-7-2 after their non-league finale.
  • Chris Cruz scored in the 20th minute to put Springfield ahead. After a long throw in, the ball took a couple bounces off a cluster of heads before Cruz connected on an acrobatic spinning shot.
  • The visitors doubled their lead with 4:24 remaining in the half. A Pride cross deflected off a Skidmore foot out to Jack Habersaat for a low left-footed shot from 22 yards.
  • Skidmore goalie Will Devall finished the game with six saves, including a diving stop on a penalty kick in the second half.
  • Noah Pete turned away five shots for Springfield.
  • Skidmore's best scoring chance came in the 53rd minute. On a center-cut free kick from less than a yard beyond the box, Brady Trenchard's shot rang off the crossbar.
  • Shots overall favored Springfield 19-17. Shots on goal were 8-5.
  • Skidmore finished with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Springfield was whistled for 19 fouls against eight for Skidmore.
NEXT UP: Skidmore returns to league play Saturday at home at 2 p.m. against Rensselaer.
