Swimming & diving teams collect road victories at Clarkson

Sophia May swept the women's diving events.
POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Skidmore College swimming & diving teams both won at Clarkson on Saturday afternoon. The women won 183-105, and the men picked up a 172-125 decision. Both teams are off to 3-0 starts.
 
  • The women won 11 out of 16 events (68.8 percent) while the men came away with wins in 13 events (81.3 percent).
  • Nicolas Sodi came away with a triplet of individual wins. He captured first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:03.19), the 200-meter backstroke (2:16.09), and the 400-meter freestyle (4:29.47).
  • Ryan Delfico won twice individually and once in a relay. He won the 200-meter butterfly (2:17.21) and the 200-meter IM (2:21.14). To close the meet, Delfico joined up with Gavin Schiavi, Jonah Vaynshtok, and Brendan Lu with a time of 1:38.89 in the 200-meter freestyle relay.
  • Skidmore swept the 200-meter freestyle relay, one of seven events won by the Thoroughbreds by both men and women. The women's 200-meter freestyle relay squad of Faye Mooney, Kelly Hsu, Lydia Walker, and April Cook won with a time of 1:59.59.
  • Mooney had four wins on the day: two relays and two individual. She claimed first in both the 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.22) and the 200-meter breaststroke (3:01.45). To kick the meet off, the team of Mooney, Ginny Hunt, Hsu, and Emily Booth clocked in at 2:10.79 to take first in the 200-meter medley relay.
  • Hsu accomplished the same feat. She won both the 50-meter freestyle (28.88) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:42.54) in addition to the two relays.
  • Lu also picked up two solo wins. He was first in the 100-meter freestyle (53.84) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.15).
  • Sophia May swept the diving boards with scores of 191.40 in the 1-meter and 180.60 in the 3-meter.
  • Tomás Ruiz scored a 189.75 to win the 1-meter on the men's side.
  • Brandon Lis got Skidmore's first individual win of the day in event number four, the men's 800-meter freestyle. He had a winning time of 9:20.83.
  • Keegan Scharoun got a victory in the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.66)
  • Other solo victotries were earned by Liam Keating (100-meter breaststroke- 1:08.78), Sabrina Reed (200-meter butterfly- 2:44.66), Aidan Darling (200-meter breaststroke- 2:33.92), and Gretchen Gwitt (100-meter butterfly- 1:09.21).

"Our team performed very well today, winning a significant number of close races to edge out Clarkson on both sides. With the competition in short course meters as opposed to the typical yards format, they just raced, and it paid off! Many athletes showcased grit and determination to close out their races." 
 
NEXT UP: Skidmore returns to the water next Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. against Vassar.
