Swimming & Diving Preview 2023-24

Swimming & diving gearing up for start of new season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming & diving teams open the 2023-24 season this weekend with home dual meets against St. Lawrence University and SUNY Potsdam.

The schedule: After the pair of home meets to open the year, Skidmore will travel to Clarkson for a meet on Oct. 28. Skidmore hosts Vassar Nov. 4 before hitting the road for the final three events of the fall semester, culminating in the Don Richards Invitational at RIT Dec. 1-2. Skidmore will be home once more in January, on the 27th, against RPI. The Vassar Sprint Invite (Feb. 3) will be the final tune-up for league championships.

Liberty League Championships: Ithaca will once again serve as the host site for the 2024 Liberty League Championships Feb. 21-24. Last year, the men had their best result in meet history, finishing fourth in the 10-team event, and the women took sixth place.

Back: Skidmore brings back a total of 31 (18 women, 13 men) athletes from the 2022-23 roster. On the men's side, Nicolas Sodi defended his 1650 league title with a program and championship record time, which earned him an NCAA Division III B qualifying mark. Sophia May represented the women at the NCAA Division III Diving Regionals last season. Both return this year for their junior seasons. In total, the 2022-23 team set 22 College records.

Incoming: The Thoroughbreds add 14 first years to the roster for the 2023-24 season, including five on the men's side and nine on the women's side.

From head coach Jill Greenleaf:
"We're excited to open up our season at home against St. Lawrence. Our programs have a long history of close contests, and I expect this year's meet, particularly on the women's side, to be no different. Our men look to have a depth advantage, but I know there will be some great matchups in individual races as they have added a stronger freshman class. On the women's side, our team won by just three points last year to increase our win streak to three. We look to build on that tomorrow. On Saturday, we expect our athletes to demonstrate more versatility in their events to help us prepare for the league opponents ahead. It should be a good test of where we can utilize our athletes in different events."
