Thoroughbreds stay unbeaten in league with 47-42 win over RIT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team defeated visiting RIT in a defensive battle on Saturday afternoon, 47-42. Skidmore improves to 4-0 in the Liberty League with the win and 8-3 overall. RIT falls to 2-2 and 4-7 overall.
 
  • Julia Blanck led the way for the Thoroughbreds with 13 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocks.
  • Becca Horger had 10 points, two blocks, and two steals.
  • In a game that remained tight throughout, neither team led by more than six points.
  • Both defenses kept the opposition to under 30 percent shooting from the field on the afternoon.
  • Sydney Pearson scored 13 and had 15 rebounds to lead RIT.
  • After an 11-all opening quarter, RIT had the lead for most of the first part of the second stanza. Skidmore came back promptly and led by five at the break.
  • The Thoroughbreds were held without a field goal for the first six minutes of the second half. A Horger jumper pulled Skidmore to within one, until Medolla hit a 3-pointer with 3:26 left in the third quarter, which put the Thoroughbreds up for good.
  • Abigail Smith pulled the Tigers to within three points with 1:21 left. Sarah Chambers and Maddie Hastings both went 1-for-2 at the free-throw line and RIT missed a pair of long balls in the final 10 seconds to close it out.
