Depth carries Thoroughbreds past William Smith, 69-38

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— A 33-5 bench scoring advantage helped the Skidmore College women's basketball team stay unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 69-38 win over William Smith College, Tuesday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center. The Thoroughbreds are all alone in first place with a 5-0 league and 9-3 overall record. The Herons are 3-9 and 1-4.
 
  • Four Skidmore players hit double figures, paced by Emmy Plage with 16 points, two blocks and a steal. Sarah Chambers added 11 points, while Andi Levitz (14) and Cassie Davidson (10) combined for 24 points off the bench. Amelia Medolla dished out a game and season-high five assists to go along with three steals.
  • Brooke Jarvis scored 12 points and Lauren DeVaney had 10 points and nine rebounds for William Smith.
  • The Herons led by as many as three in the first quarter, but Becca Horger's basket gave Skidmore the lead for good, 8-7 with 5:14 to play in the stanza.
  • The Thoroughbreds broke it open with 27 second quarter points. Levitz accounted for 12 of the total with four clutch three pointers, helping her team to a 39-26 lead at the break. Skidmore shot a blistering 10-for-15 (.667) from the floor in the quarter.
  • Chambers scored the first four points of the third quarter to extend the lead to 43-26.
  • Skidmore hit 12-of-15 free throws (.800), while William Smith struggled from the line, hitting 5-of-17 (.294).
  • The Thoroughbred defense forced 19 Heron turnovers, leading to 17 points.
  • The 31-point win margin was the most since an 87-45 win at Clarkson on Feb. 19, 2021. The 38 points allowed were the least since a Dec. 3, 2020 62-35 win vs. Clarkson.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore heads to the Hudson Valley this weekend for games at Bard (Jan. 14) and Vassar (Jan. 15).
