Thoroughbreds call on depth again to take down Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team benefited from a 36-15 advantage in bench points leading to a 60-52 win at Vassar on Friday evening. The Thoroughbreds remain unbeaten in Liberty League play at 6-0 and improve to 10-3 overall.
 
  • Nine different players scored for Skidmore. A pair off the bench scored in double figures for the Thoroughbreds. Kate McCarney led the way offensively with 12 points, while Madison Meyer had 10.
  • Sarah Chambers scored 11 points and added six rebounds and two blocks.
  • Skidmore had a 9-2 advantage in blocks. Julia Blanck tallied four and added eight rebounds. She also had a game-high two steals.
  • The win for Skidmore breaks a seven-game losing streak in the head-to-head series dating back to the 2018 Liberty League Semifinal. Vassar was previously 10-1 since 2016, but Skidmore now leads all-time series 32-25.
  • Eleven different players registered points for Vassar, but Alex Lee was the lone Brewer in double figures with 13.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored in their first possession and led wire-to-wire.
  • Skidmore shot 50 percent (8-of-16) in the third quarter to pad its five-point halftime lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds had their largest lead at 15 with 5:52 remaining. Vassar closed on a 12-5 run, including each of the final five points in the final 35 seconds.
