Strong third quarter moves Thoroughbreds past Dutchwomen 65-50

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team broke open a tight game with a 23-9 third quarter on the way to a 65-50 Liberty League win over Union College Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center. The Thoroughbreds are 7-3 and 3-0 in league play. The Dutchwomen drop to 3-7 and 1-3.
  • Julia Blanck had her third double/double of the season for Skidmore with 16 points and 18 rebounds to go along with four blocks, two assists and two steals. Amelia Medolla added 10 points and Andi Levitz hit for 11 points.
  • Union had three players in double figures, led by Kennedy Clark's 15 points. Maura Conan scored 11 and Kendall Degenhardt 10.
  • The Dutchwomen took a 13-6 first quarter lead, but Skidmore scored the final six points of the quarter and the first two of the second quarter to go up 14-13. Andi Levitz hit a pair of threes in the final 1:04 and Becca Horger went 2-2 from the line to send the game into the break tied 30-30.
  • Skidmore overpowered Union in the third quarter, outscoring the Dutchwomen 17-5 during the last 6:00 of the stanza for a 53-39 lead. Union got no closer than nine in the fourth.
  • The Thoroughbreds had a 24-9 advantage in bench scoring.
  • The win has Skidmore tied with Ithaca at the top of the Liberty League standings at 3-0. The other eight teams have at least one loss in the young season.
  • UP NEXT: RIT visits the Williamson Sports Center on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game. The Tigers are 4-6 and 2-1 after losing 66-58 to William Smith on Friday.
