Thoroughbreds begin second half with 5-2 win over Johnson & Wales

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Behind a four-point night from sophomore Kaeden Patrick, the Skidmore College men's hockey team picked up a 5-2 victory over visiting Johnson & Wales University on Friday.
 
  • The win puts Skidmore at 9-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) for 10 points.
  • JWU falls to 1-11-1 and 0-7.
  • Patrick had two goals and two assists for his second career four-point showing.
  • Connor Wood had a goal and two assists for three points.
  • Everett Wardle and Freddie Ilias both finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Jacob Franczak, Joe Biddle, Ryan Waltman, and Zach Lindewirth all pitched in with one assist apiece.
  • Tate Brandon turned away 26 JWU shots for the victory in goal for Skidmore.
  • Sam Band and Cam Martin had the goals for the Wildcats.
  • Jacob Perrin made 36 saves.
  • It took the Skidmore power play just 32 seconds to connect on its first chance as Patrick put the Thoroughbreds ahead at the 10:23 mark from Wood and Waltman.
  • The first period ended with a 2-0 Skidmore lead when Wardle got his fourth of the year from Wood and Patrick.
  • Band cut into the lead early in the second period before Ilias (4:52) and Wood (17:22) made it 4-1 at the end of the second period.
  • Patrick scored his second, and team-leading 10th of the season, in the early stages of the third period.
  • Martin scored unassisted for the visitors with 1:31 remaining to complete the scoring.
  • Skidmore finished 1-for-3 on the power play, and JWU came up empty in its two chances.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds will host UMass Boston on Saturday at 4 p.m.
