Thoroughbreds handle Dutchwomen to complete weekend road sweep

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team won its third straight and collected its eighth win over its last nine contests on Saturday with a road victory over Union, 61-52.
 
  • The Thoroughbreds improve to 14-4 and 10-1 in the Liberty League to take a stranglehold on second place, trailing Ithaca by one game. The Dutchwomen are 6-12 and 4-8.
  • Sarah Chambers led the way with her first collegiate double-double. The sophomore posted 12 points and 12 rebounds, including a career-high seven offensive boards.
  • Kate McCarney and Andi Levitz scored 11 points each.
  • Union's three leading scorers all came off the bench. Jelena Perovic had 14 points, while Grace Enselek scored 12 and Maura Conan finished with eight. The Dutchwomen bench scored 38 of their 52 points.
  • Consecutive 3-pointers from Amelia Medolla and Emilija Jakumaite gave the Thoroughbreds the lead late into the second quarter. McCarney joined the party with a long ball with 1:29 to go, and Levitz bead the horn to send Skidmore up by four points at the break.
  • Deep balls played key early in the third quarter for Skidmore as Chambers and McCarney connected to make it a 10-point game.
  • Union was never able to get back to within seven the rest of the way.
  • Skidmore earned the season sweep against Union for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds will look to keep the strong play going on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 31 against William Smith.
