Thoroughbreds come from behind to drop RPI

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team scored 10 of the game's final 13 points to earn a 55-51 comeback win over Rensselaer at home on Saturday afternoon. Skidmore improves to 12-4 and 8-1 in the Liberty League with the weekend split. RPI falls to 9-8 and 6-4.
 
  • Sophomore Amelia Medolla drained a 3-pointer to tie the game with 2:34 remaining. Then, junior Julia Blanck put the Thoroughbreds ahead for the first time since the first quarter with a mid-range jumper.
  • After an RPI turnover, Blanck brought down an offensive rebound and laid in the put-back and drew a foul. She completed the three-point play to put Skidmore up by five.
  • Lolo Reynolds answered with a triple for the Engineers to make it 53-51 with 37 seconds left.
  • Kate McCarney went to the free-throw line with 20 seconds left and made 1-of-2 to increase the lead to three, and Blanck closed it out with a free throw with seven seconds left.
  • McCarney scored a team-high 10 points off the bench for Skidmore with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Emmy Plage led all players with four steals and finished with eight points and eight rebounds.  
  • Medolla and Becca Horger both dropped seven points.
  • Blanck scored all six of her points in the afternoon in the final two minutes.
  • For RPI, Heather Converse led all players with 11 points and added 12 rebounds for the double-double.
  • Skidmore built a quick 8-2 lead before RPI scored the next 11 points as part of a 16-1 run to close out the first quarter.
  • The Engineers had their largest lead at 11 in the early stages of the second quarter.
  • Both teams scored 22 points in the paint, while Skidmore rode away with an 18-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will play each of its next five games on the road, beginning next weekend at RIT and Union Jan. 27-28.
