Skidmore plays WPI to 1-1 tie

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - WPI scored the equalizer with 8.5 seconds remaining as the Skidmore College men's soccer team opened the 2022 season with a 1-1 draw with the visiting Engineers on Saturday afternoon.
 
  • Senior Ethan Kilmnick scored Skidmore's goal on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Classmate Brady Trenchard drew the foul in the penalty area to set up the opportunity.
  • Aaron Vav scored the last-second goal for the visiting Engineers on a volley from a WPI throw-in.
  • WPI led in shots, 14-9, and had five shots on goal to Skidmore's three.
  • Senior goalkeeper Bobby Stratts made four saves for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Visiting keeper Roe Hendrick turned aside two shots in the deadlock.
  • Ethan Slager and Finn Weber led Skidmore with two shot attempts each.
  • WPI's goal scorer, Vaz, paced the field with four shots.
  • The first half was played predominately in the middle of the field, with the teams combining for just four shots and two shots on goal, which included Kilmnick's go-ahead PK.
  • There were 19 total shots in the final 45 minutes, including seven from Skidmore.
  • Per updated NCAA Soccer rules, no extra time was played, and the contest was ruled a draw after 90 minutes.
