Thoroughbreds win third straight, 4-2, over Castleton

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team was victorious for the third consecutive game on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-2 non-league win over Castleton at home.
 
  • Senior Carrie Hughes scored three goals to extend her season total to 14, four clear of the field in the Liberty League goal-scoring race.
  • Sophomore CC Wetter scored Skidmore's fourth goal for insurance late in regulation.
  • Carly Shea finished with two assists, while Morgan Sickels and Hanako Memon both had one.
  • Victoria Bodnar had three saves.
  • All three of Hughes's goals were scored on penalty corners. She put the Thoroughbreds ahead 2:33 into the contest with a long-range blast.
  • Castleton (5-4) tied it up with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter. Amelie Steinel followed up her own rebound for the goal.
  • Hughes worked a give-and-go with Sickels to make it 2-1 3:20 into the second half.
  • Emily Harris found a bouncing pass from Kaitlin Bardelilini and tied it at two with 1:16 to play in the third.
  • The Thoroughbreds put it away with a pair in the fourth. Hughes completed the hat trick and got the game-winning goal at 51:55 on another long-range shot off a corner.
  • Wetter scored her sixth of the season after taking a pass from Memon, who took control of a loose ball in the Spartan end.
  • Shots finished 19-9 in favor of Skidmore (7-2). The Thoroughbreds also posted an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will wrap its five game homestand on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. against Rochester.
