Thoroughbreds drop back-and-forth five-setter at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's volleyball team lost its Liberty League opening match in five sets (25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13) at Vassar on Friday.
 
  • Jo Blanco led Skidmore (2-8, 0-1 Liberty League) with a match-high 14 kills and added three blocks and seven digs.
  • Chelsea Winegar had 13 kills, 10 digs, and two aces.
  • Jazlin Chen led all players with five blocks.
  • Maya Stolarz finished with three aces and four blocks.
  • Audrey Powell had 27 assists and three aces, while Noa Berger dished out 15 helpers.
  • Elizabeth Miller tallied 15 digs.
  • After falling behind one set to none, the Thoroughbreds rallied to take a 2-1 lead before Vassar (1-8, 1-0 Liberty League) came right back to force the deciding fifth game.
  • A wild game of back-and-forth commenced in the fifth. Vassar scored the first three before Skidmore came roaring back with six straight. Vassar countered with five consecutive points of its own to go into the switch up a pair.
  • The Thoroughbreds got four capped by consecutive Blanco kills to lead by two. Vassar used kills by three different players and a service ace to swipe back the two-point lead.
  • Vassar led 13-11 after the teams traded aces. Chen put down a kill to pull Skidmore to within one, but the Brewers got to match point on a Hailey Hayes kill. Carolyn Scott had a kill to make it 14-13, but Molly Delahunty finished it off with a match-clinching kill.
  • Skidmore completes the weekend road trip on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Union.
