Skidmore opens league play with 1-0 win over Clarkson

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team used a 14th-minute goal from senior Isabella Nevin and nine saves from junior goalkeeper Claire Wolgast to defeat visiting Clarkson University 1-0 to open Liberty League play on Wednesday.
 
  • Nevin, who has a goal in three consecutive games, took a step to the inside before beating the defender on a dribble out to the left and fired a shot from nine yards out past Clarkson keeper Molly DiCaprio.
  • Nine saves marks a career high for Wolgast, who was relied on to make several key stops for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Skidmore (5-1, 1-0 Liberty League) has not surrendered a goal in over three games (296:37) dating back to Sept. 10 at New Paltz.
  • The Thoroughbreds fended off the Golden Knight attack that produced 20 shot attempts. Shots finished 20-9, with shots on goal 9-4 in favor of Clarkson.
  • Clarkson (52-1, 0-1 Liberty League) kept the pressure on, resulting in eight corner kicks, including five in the second half, against one for Skidmore.
  • Nevin, Kat Dunn, and Maddison Hallet led Skidmore with two shots apiece.
  • For the guests, Angelina Fahrenkrug finished with seven shots and three on target.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host nationally fifth-ranked William Smith College on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m.
