GENESEO, N.Y.— Carrie Hughes scored in overtime secure a 3-2 road win over SUNY Geneseo for the Skidmore College field hockey team Sunday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds are 4-0 to start the season, while the Knights are 2-2.

  • The game winner was the team-high eighth of the season for Hughes. Kayla Hassett assisted off a corner.
  • Beth Yorns forced the overtime when she tied the game with 32 seconds to play in regulation.
  • Skidmore's lone lead of the game came with the game-winner.
  • Geneseo scored first. CC Wetter tied it at 19:52 from Hughes. The Knights went in front with 9:00 to play before the heroics of Yorns and Hughes.
  • Goalie Victoria Bodnar had her best career game. She finished with eight saves, including four in the overtime. Skidmore started the extra stanza a player-down and the Knights took advantage a 5-1 shot difference.
  • The 4-0 start is the team's best since a 6-0 start in the 2014 season.
  • It was the second straight times the teams played overtime. The Thoroughbreds won in a shoot-out last season.
  • COACH HALLENBECK: "Kayla Hassett was a workhorse for the team, giving an all-out effort, and providing great skill in a hard fought win. Morgan Sickels was the unsung hero, providing set up chances that led to corners and goals. Goalkeeper Victoria Bodnar turned it on in the overtime and helped seal the victory."
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore travels to New Paltz for a 3:30 game on Sept. 14.
