NEW PALTZ, N.Y.— The New Paltz field hockey team scored the game's first three goals on the way to a 3-1 win over Skidmore College Wednesday afternoon. It was the first loss of the season for the 4-1 Thoroughbreds. New Paltz is unbeaten at 4-0.
- It was a 1-0 game at the half, when the Hawks made it 2-0 just 3:00 into the third quarter. After another goal to start the fourth quarter, The Thoroughbred combo of Carrie Hughes and Morgan Sickels scored at 50:26 to cut it to 3-1. The Thoroughbreds dominated the final 10 minutes, but couldn't get any closer.
- Hughes has scored goals in seven straight games, including the last two contests of 2021. Her nine goals in five games equals her 2021 total for 20 games.
- New Paltz outshot Skidmore 17-12 and had an 11-9 penalty corner advantage.
- UP NEXT: Thoroughbreds have an open weekend and will be home Sept. 20 against Hamilton College at 4 p.m.
