Thoroughbreds storm past Golden Flyers 7-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The Skidmore College field hockey remained unbeaten with a solid 7-0 road win over Nazareth College Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds are 3-0 on the young season, while the Golden Flyers drop to 0-5. Carrie Hughes led Skidmore with three goals.
 
  • Skidmore started quickly when CC Wetter scored at 5:27 of the first quarter. Rookie Mia Angwin made it 2-0 at 12:30 from Carly Shea. Morgan Sickels boosted the score to 3-0 at 19:53 from Wetter and Hughes scored the first of three straight at 25:12 from Beth Yorns for a 4-0 lead at the half.
  • Hughes scored two goals in a 2:01 span in the fourth quarter and Kayla Hassett closed out the scoring with her second goal of the season with just under 4:00 to play and with her team down a player.
  • Skidmore had a 36-1 shot and 13-4 corner advantage. Victoria Bodnar made one save for the shutout.
  • The Thoroughbreds have outscored opponents 20-1 in the first three games.
  • Skidmore is 13-0 all-time vs. Nazareth, including eight shutouts.
Coach Hallenbeck: "The road victory vs. Nazareth was a great team win for the Thoroughbreds.  Midfielder Kayla Hassett was outstanding, contributing excellent defense, strong passing, dribbling and scoring."
