Thoroughbreds fall to Clarkson in playoff series

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team succumbed to visiting Clarkson in the Liberty League Crossover Series on Saturday. The Golden Knights captured game one 16-6 before winning the second game to clinch it, 12-6.
 
GAME ONE
  • After single runs in the first and third, Clarkson scored five times in the seventh to blow it open.
  • The visitors also added two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in both the eighth and ninth innings.
  • Skidmore recorded five consecutive singles and seven batters reached base consecutively to score all six of its runs in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Cameron Pedemonti, Shaw Pedemonti, Nathan Wagner, Pascal Marcktell, and Jackson Hornung all hit RBI singles in the inning.
  • Sean Lang was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Taden Torrado had Skidmore's only extra-base hit, a leadoff double in the third.
  • Colby Brouillette homered twice and finished with nine RBI. He was 4-for-6 and scored twice.
  • Caleb Doyle also hit a home run for Clarkson.
  • Kyle Locklear threw 7.0 innings of two-hit ball for the Golden Knights. He walked four and struck out seven.
 
GAME TWO
  • Clarkson scored eight runs, highlighted by a Brouillette grand slam, to erase a three-run deficit.
  • Skidmore took the lead in the second when Torrado hit an opposite-field solo home run over the right field fence.
  • After Clarkson tied it in the fourth on a Michael Nee solo shot, the Thoroughbreds plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead by three. Hornung singled home two runs in the inning.
  • Hornung also had a two-run double in the seventh to finish the game with four RBI.
  • Clarkson grabbed the lead, 5-4, before Brouillette's grand slam put the game out of reach.
  • The Golden Knights added three more in the seventh.
  • Hornung's double with two outs in the seventh for two runs completed the scoring. With the hit, he became the only player in program history to surpass the 50-RBI plateau in a single season. Hornung set single-season program records in batting average (.460), runs (54), total bases (114), hits (69), runs batted in (51), slugging percentage (.760) and tied the doubles record (17).
