SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team established itself as the Liberty League East front runner with a convincing 16-3 win over Union College Sunday at Castle Diamond. - Skidmore took over early, sending 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. The Thoroughbreds scored five runs on only two hits, taking advantage of five walks, a hit batter and a pair of wild pitches.
- The pattern continued in the second, with Skidmore scoring two more on no hits, two walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch.
- The Thoroughbreds put up another five in the third, this time pounding out seven hits in the inning. Jackson Hornung took a 3-2 pitch onto Denton Road for his three-run home run, his fourth of the season.
- Skidmore starter Ameer Hasan shook off the extended time on the bench, while his team was batting around in the first and third innings. He efficiently retired 11 straight batters after a first-inning double, before giving up a pair of runs in the fifth. He moved to 4-0, allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts over eight innings.
- Danny Melillo was 1-2 with two runs and three stolen bases. Shortstop William Snyder was the lone Thoroughbred to play all nine innings. He went 3-6 with a double and four RBI. Trey Bourque was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI.
- Eight Skidmore players were hit by pitches, led by Andy Pelc who got nailed twice.
- The teams played a combined 42 players.
NEXT UP: Skidmore has a repeat midweek match-up with Castleton University on April 6 before a Liberty League set against Rensselaer. The series opens with a home doubleheader on April 9 at 1 p.m.
