Thoroughbreds go 1-1 at RPI

TROY, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team broke into the Liberty League win column with an 11-inning 8-6 game one win over Rensselaer Friday. The Engineers battled back for a 9-5 game two win.  The Thoroughbreds are 18-8 overall and 1-3 in Liberty League play. RPI is 16-14 and 3-3.
 
GAME 1
  • The Engineers battled from behind to tie the game three times, including twice in extra innings, before the Thoroughbreds scored two unearned runs in the 11 inning and shut the door on RPI in the bottom of the 11th for the 8-6 game one win.
  • Kaitlyn Judd was 4-5, including a two-run triple in the third inning. She had three RBI and two runs.
  • Hannah Davis was 3-5 with an RBI and earned the win on the mound, improving to 9-3. She allowed six runs (three earned) in 10 innings. She struck out six and walked four. Lindsey Raimondi pitched the scoreless 11th with two strikeouts for her first save of the season.
  • Melissa Mathias and Katie Anderson had two hits each. Megan White extended her on-base streak to 22.
 
GAME 2
  • RPI scored five times in the fifth inning to break open game 2.
  • Down 3-0, Skidmore scored four in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Mathias had a two-run double and Davis an RBI single. The Engineers tied it in their half of the third. The Thoroughbreds nosed ahead 5-4 in the fifth before the RPI rally in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Davis finished 2-4 with a triple and pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
  • The Thoroughbreds head to the North Country for a league doubleheader on Saturday against St. Lawrence.
