Thoroughbreds improve league positioning with road sweep of SLU

CANTON, NY. – The Skidmore College softball team improved to 20-8 overall and 3-3 in the Liberty League with a pair of wins (6-1, 4-3) at St. Lawrence on Saturday. In the bunched conference standings, Skidmore sits tied with RPI for third and just a half-game above SLU and Clarkson.
 
GAME ONE
  • Katie Anderson was 4-for-4 with two RBI, two doubles, and one run scored.
  • Meghan Robertson and Melissa Mathias both had two hits and scored two runs. Robertson stole two bases, while Mathias swiped one bag,
  • Hannah Davis held the Saints to one unearned run. She struck out a career-high nine batters and scattered five hits to pick up the complete-game win, her 10th victory of the year.
  • Skidmore jumped ahead in the first on a double steal between leadoff hitter Robertson and Mathias.
  • Anderson delivered a two-out double to score Mathias from third.
  • Skidmore boosted the lead to three in the third on a Chloe McGonagle RBI double down the leftfield line.
  • St. Lawrence scored its run in the fifth on an infield throwing error. With a runner on second, Davis fanned three consecutive hitters to escape the jam.
  • The Thoroughbreds plated three more in the sixth, highlighted by another run-scoring hit from Anderson, to complete the scoring.  
 
GAME TWO
  • Skidmore scored three of its runs in the first inning. Mathias, Davis, and Kaitlyn Judd each drove in runs with singles in the inning.
  • St. Lawrence got one back in the bottom half of the frame when Stella VanGee hit a one-out triple and scored on an infield error.
  • The scoring halted until the fifth, when Anderson hit her third double of the day to score Mathias, who doubled to lead off the inning.
  • Two Skidmore errors in the bottom of the fifth and a double steal gave the Saints one back.
  • Skidmore loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth, but lined into an inning-ending triple play.
  • Margo Hopper brought around SLU's third run with a two-out single in the seventh and represented the tying run.
  • Skidmore starter Lindsey Raimondi induced a line out to shortstop to end it.
  • Raimondi surrendered three runs, only one earned, in the complete-game win. St. Lawrence had just three hits against her, and she struck out eight.
  • Mathias finished the nightcap 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI.
  • Kate Wilkie singled three times in three trips.

  • Skidmore will go to Ithaca College next Saturday, April 23 and to Union College on Sunday, April 24.
