Thoroughbreds shut down Continentals in Game 2 for softball split

CLINTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College softball team beat Hamilton College, 6-5 to earn a weekday nonleague split with the Continentals. Hamilton won the first game 4-3.  The Thoroughbreds are 17-7, while Hamilton is 13-7.
 
GAME 1
  • Skidmore put up three runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead, but the Continentals responded with two in their half of the inning to take the final 4-3 decision.
  • Kaitlyn Judd drilled a two-run double in the fifth and Katie Anderson followed with an RBI double of her own for Skidmore's three runs.
  • The Thoroughbreds only managed three hits.
  • Hannah Davis (8-3) took the loss. She went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. She walked two and struck out one. 
GAME 2
  • The Thoroughbreds took a quick 3-0 lead in the first keyed by Franny Casillas' two-run double. Skidmore extended the advantage to 5-1 with two more in the fifth. Chloe McGonagle had a sac fly and Casillas an RBI single. McGonagle made it 6-1 with an RBI single in the seventh.
  • It got interesting in the bottom of the seventh when Hamilton scored for runs to close to within one, 6-5. But, with the tying and winning runs on base, Lindsey Raimondi struck out the final Continental batter for the win.
  • Melissa Mathias was 2-4 and Hannah Davis was 1-3 with two runs.
  • Raimondi improved to 8-2 with the complete game win. She gave up four earned runs on 12 hits. She walked two and struck out six.
  • Skidmore returns to Liberty League play with a four-game road trip that starts with games at RPI on April 15.
