Thoroughbreds take two from Utica

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team improved to 11-3 on the spring with a doubleheader sweep (9-8, 13-2) over Utica University on Saturday afternoon. 
 
GAME ONE
  • Utica put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh inning.
  • The pioneers scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to nearly erase a seven-run deficit.
  • Lindsey Raimondi, who started the contest, returned to the circle to wiggle out of damage and preserve the victory. 
  • Hannah Davis was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double in the first inning, a two-run single in the second, a two-run home run in the fourth. 
  • Megan White finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. 
  • Kaitlyn Judd also had a two-bagger. 
  • Skidmore scored at least once in each of the first four innings. 
  • Julia Phelps was 2-for-3 with the visitors with both hits going for three bases. She drove in two and scored twice.
  • In total, Raimondi allowed five runs, four earned, over six innings of work. She walked four and struck out four. 
 
GAME TWO
  • In the nightcap, Skidmore scored in bunches. The Thoroughbreds batted around twice and scored five in the first inning and six more in the third. 
  • Megan White homered to center, a two-run blast, in the fourth. She finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
  • Davis capped her perfect day at the plate by going 1-for-1 with three walks and two scored. She also earned the win in the circle for the Thoroughbreds. She surrendered just two unearned runs in the five-inning contest. She allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out five. 
  • Judd drove in three runs. She finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. 
  • Katie Anderson drove in two on a double in the third inning. She finished 2-for-3.
  •  Meghan Robertson was 2-for-4 with two driven in and two scored.
  • Bernie Berner walked in all three of her plate appearances. She scored twice and stole a bag.
  • Alyssa Barbato had two of Utica's three hits, both singles. 
 
NEXT UP
  • Skidmore has won five games in a row and 6-of-7. The Thoroughbreds will host Castleton in a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday, March 29.
