GENEVA, N.Y. – Nationally sixth-ranked Hobart rolled off five unanswered goals to beat the Skidmore men's hockey team, 5-4.

Austin Mourar scored the tying and game-winning goals in the third period for the Hobart (16-4-2, 11-2-2 NEHC), who extended their cushion for top spot in the New England Hockey Conference. Skidmore drops to 13-9-1 and 8-7-1 with 25 points and is in sixth place. The Thoroughbreds will host Johnson & Wales and UMass Boston next weekend to close the regular season.

Austin Rook had two assists, while

PA Martineau also scored twice for the hosts. Jake Gresh scored Hobart's first goal and later added an assist. Chase Bell and Luke Aquaro each had two assists

The Thoroughbreds scored three times in the first period and again early in the second period to lead 4-0. Russell and Mussio both scored on the power play, giving Skidmore a 2-0 lead. Lindewirth made is 3-0 47 seconds after Mussio's tally. Johnson kept the momentum going with a goal at 3:32 of the second period. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â

Gresh put the Statesmen on the board at 5:33 of the second period before Martineau got both of his tallies at 13:50 and 17:14. Mourar's tying goal came 79 seconds into the third period. He won it at 11:21.

With 1:32 remaining, Skidmore was called for a major penalty with its net empty to damper the bid for the equalizer.

Joe Halmstrom had the win in relief for Hobart after not allowing a goal and making eight saves over 36:28. Brandon Tate finished with 37 saves for Skidmore. Â
