Thoroughbreds power past RPI 73-64

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Skidmore's Andi Levitz and Cassie Davidson came off the bench to key a second half comeback and 73-64 Liberty League win over Rensselaer Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center.
 
It was the third straight win for the Thoroughbreds (12-5, 7-5 Liberty League) and completes the season sweep of the Engineers (3-14, 2-10).
 
Skidmore had four players in double digits, led by Davidson with 16 and Levitz with 14. The pair scored 25 of their combined 30 points in the second half. Julia Blanck registered her seventh double/double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with five blocks. Kate McCarney scored 10 points and had three assists.
 
Nicole DaPra led RPI with 20 points. Heather Converse scored 13 and had 13 rebound and four steals. Lolo Reynolds hit for 12 points and added eight assists.
 
The Thoroughbred bench outscored the Engineers 39-10.
 
After a tight first quarter, RPI used a 10-0 run to open a 33-23 lead with 1:31 to play. Skidmore responded by scoring the final seven points of the half, capped by a big three-pointer from McCarney to cut it to 33-30 at the break.
 
The Engineers maintained the lead in the third, until Levitz launched a deep three that bounced high off the rim and then in to tie it 50-50 with 1:20 left in the quarter. Levitz then scored on a layup with two seconds to play to give Skidmore the lead 52-50.
 
RPI opened the fourth quarter with threes from Reynolds and Emily Vallee for a 56-52 advantage. Skidmore kept is close before retaking the lead 60-59 on a McCarney bucket with 6:08 to play. After a Levitz three, Davidson scored the Thoroughbreds' final 10 points over the last 4:19 to put the game away.
 
Skidmore hosts Ithaca College (16-3, 11-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. It will be Senior Day and The Big Green Scream.
