Skidmore stumbles at Bard, 72-59

ANNANDALE-on-HUDSON, N.Y.—The shorthanded Skidmore College men's basketball team lost on the road, 72-59 to Bard College in Liberty League action Friday night.
 
The setback has the Thoroughbreds are 12-8 overall and 8-6 in Liberty League play, while the Raptors are 8-13 and 4-10.
 
Ty Lamport was one of four Skidmore starters in double figures with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He also had five assists and two steals. Greg Skoric had his eighth straight and 15th double/double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Harrison Eichelberger added 12 points and Jake Walsh scored 10.
 
Tyler Burns paced Bard with 21 points.
 
Skidmore erased an early 8-point deficit with an 8-0 run to tie the game 13-13 with 11:18 to play. Bobby Stratts put back a missed shot to cap the streak. Bard returned the favor, closing the half with an 11-3 run to lead 38-30 at the break.
 
The Raptors extended the lead to 64-41 with 7:38 to play. The Thoroughbreds responded by scoring the next 12 points, cutting it back to 64-53 with 3:24 left. Welch keyed the run with eight of the 12 points, including a pair of threes.
 
Skidmore got to within nine twice over the final minutes, but Bard held off the rally for the 72-59 final.
 
Bard scored 19 points off 20 Skidmore turnovers and had a 25-5 bench scoring advantage.
 
The Thoroughbreds are at Vassar on Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest.
