Skidmore succumbs to #12 Middlebury, 73-53

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team fell to nationally 12th-ranked Middlebury College, 73-53, on Friday night.
 
  • Skidmore ends its first semester of competition at 4-4.
  • The Panthers are 7-1.
  • Two Skidmore players (Bobby Stratts, Tautvydas Kupstas) finished in double figures in scoring. They both had 10.
  • Harrison Eichelberger scored nine points; all on first-half 3-pointers.
  • Greg Skoric had eight points and five rebounds in his return.
  • Riley Greene had a game-high eight assists with seven points.
  • Alex Sobel was a one-man wrecking crew for Middlebury. He scored 29 points on 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) shooting with 20 rebounds, seven blocks, and four assists.
  • He was the only Middlebury player to score more than eight points.
  • Middlebury shot 58.1 percent in the second half to put away the Thoroughbreds, who held it to within 10 points until the final five minutes of the contest.
  • Team rebounds finished 52-25 for Middlebury. The Panthers also finished with a 15-5 edge in second-chance points.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will return from break at the Naples Classic Dec. 29-30 with games against Suffolk and John Carroll.
  • Coach Joe Burke: "Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to your opponent. That's a really good, well-coached team with maybe in my mind one of the best players in the country. I enjoy playing that program every year because it always tells me where we are as a team. We are not there yet and we know that.  We need to use the break too get some guys healthy and get ourselves ready for January and February."
