Skidmore staves off St. Lawrence, 57-53, to complete weekend sweep

CANTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team defeated St. Lawrence 57-53 on Saturday afternoon to complete the two-game weekend road sweep. Skidmore is off to a 2-0 start in the Liberty League and 4-1 overall. The Saints are 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
  • Three players scored in double figures for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Amelia Medolla led the way with 16 points for Skidmore. She hit on four 3-pointers in 10 attempts and recorded a pair of steals.  
  • Emmy Plage and Madison Meyer dropped 11 points each. Plage added a game-high eight rebounds, while Meyer shot 5-of-11 from the field with two steals.
  • Skidmore used a 10-0 mid-quarter run in the first and kept the foot on the pedal in the second frame to lead by 14, 34-20, at the half.
  • Skidmore's advantage dipped below 10 just once in the third, 44-35, before Andi Levitz scored with 17 seconds left to make it again an 11-point game.
  • Skidmore shot 27.27 percent in the fourth quarter. St. Lawrence made a trio of 3-pointers and went 5-of-6 at the free-throw line to close the gap.
  • A Hannah Van Dyke jumper with 5:08 left brought the Saints to within two points. Skidmore had led by more than two points ever since the 3:41 mark of the first quarter.
  • Medolla came back with a bucket to make it 50-46. Then, after a Becca Horger steal, Plage drilled a 3-ball to put the Thoroughbreds ahead by seven.
  • St. Lawrence made four consecutive free throws in the final nine seconds.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will play a pair of non-league games next week, starting with a road match at Wesleyan on Wednesday, Dec. 7 followed by a home date with Middlebury on Friday, Dec. 9.
