Balanced attack paves way for Thoroughbred win in league opener

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team picked up a 65-53 road victory at Clarkson to begin Liberty League play on Friday.
 
  • Skidmore's balanced attack offensively was led by Andi Levitz. She scored 14 points off the bench on 4-of-10 shooting from 3-point range.
  • Nine different players registered points and eight had at least one assist for the Thoroughbreds. Amelia Medolla, Sarah Chambers, and Madison Meyer had nine points apiece.   
  • Skidmore (3-1, 1-0 Liberty League) shot 46.7 percent as a team over the first three quarters before cooling off in the fourth to finish at 41.7 percent overall.
  • The bench accounted for 37 points for the Thoroughbreds. Clarkson had just two bench points.
  • Skidmore also controlled the glass, finishing with a 46-28 edge in rebounds. Julia Blanck pulled in a game-high nine boards.
  • Cassidy Dumont led all players with 21 points for the Golden Knights. She finished 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
  • The first quarter featured runs on both ends. Clarkson answered Skidmore's game-opening seven-point streak with one of their own. Skidmore then finished the frame on an 11-1 run.
  • Clarkson closed the gap in the second quarter to one before Chambers dropped in a layup with under 10 seconds remaining to send the Thoroughbreds into the break ahead by three.
  • Skidmore scored the final eight points of the third quarter to re-gain its double-digit lead.
  • Clarkson (2-2, 0-1 Liberty Leaue) got to as close as six with 2:51 left in the fourth. Medolla answered with a three ball to help snuff out any further comeback bid.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds will go for the weekend sweep on Saturday at 2 p.m. against St. Lawrence.
