ONEONTA, N.Y.—Senior guard
Riley Greene's triple-double was the top highlight in a game of highlights in the Skidmore College men's basketball team's 88-74 road win over Hartwick College Tuesday night. The Thoroughbreds are 2-0 to start the season, while the Hawks drop to 1-3.
- Greene scored 13 points, dished out a game-high 11 assists and had a game-high 11 rebounds for the program's third triple-double and the first since Aldin Medunjanin did it in 2013. Kevin Yarter had the first in 1981. The 11 assists and 11 rebounds are both career highs for Greene.
- Harrison Eichelberger and Mark Engel had 22 points each. Eichelberger was 10-16 from the floor and Engel came off the bench to shoot a red-hot 6-7 from three-point range and 8-11 overall. The 22 points was a career high for Engel who also had a pair of assists.
- Tautvydas Kupstas was also in double figures with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds. Alexei Downie contributed nine points and nine boards.
- It was a tight game in the first half with 10 lead changes and four ties. Skidmore held a 33-30 lead with 4:45 to play in the half when a Bobby Stratts layup started a 14-6 Thoroughbred run to close out the stanza with Skidmore in front 47-36. Engel had two threes in the run.
- Kupstas extended the lead to 49-36 with the first bucket of the second half. Hartwick got to within six a few times over the final 19:00, but Skidmore answered back each time, pulling away in the final minutes for the 88-74 win.
- NEXT UP: Skidmore has an early Liberty League opener on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hobart.
- COACH JOE BURKE: "Any road win is a good win. I didn't expect a clean game with the adjustments we had to make but we had some guys really step up. This team will have to continue to come together until Greg returns. We are still capable of doing great things its just going to look a little bit different."
